How to write an executive summary slide from briefing notes
Original Slideration editorial exercise · fictional scenario, not a client result. The before/after panels below explain an editorial transformation; they are not screenshots of a customer's deck.
Meeting question: What should the leadership team take away, and what should happen next?
Before and after: change the hierarchy first
Before: unstructured briefing notes
- 18% active adoption; 32% running trials
- Country comparisons and industry differences
- Leadership support and team working observations
- Recommendations mixed into supporting detail
After: proposed reading structure
- Adoption gap: distinguish trials from active use
- Leadership: put implementation ownership beside the finding
- Next action: turn observations into a decision request
Try matching this sample layout
This opens a public fictional sample in the real search tool. It searches the library rather than showing predetermined matches. You can then replace it with your own screenshot.
Why choose this layout?
The original notes make every fact compete for attention. We first separate the decision from the evidence, then group supporting points under three conclusion blocks. The d049 layout is useful because the headline and evidence remain editable text rather than a flattened image. A dashboard would make the figures prominent but would not, by itself, explain the recommendation.

Reproduce the transformation
- Write the meeting question above the notes. Do not start by shrinking the font.
- Separate observed facts, interpretations and proposed actions. The 18% and 32% figures are sample facts, not proof of any recommendation.
- Name three conclusions that answer the question. Place each supporting bullet under exactly one conclusion.
- Replace the generic topic heading with the takeaway. Add an owner and a next step in your own version; do not imply these were agreed in the sample.
Where this approach stops working
This is a structure exercise, not an adoption study. The fictional sample does not establish a causal relationship between leadership support and adoption. If your evidence supports more than three conclusions, prioritise or split the content across slides instead of forcing it into three boxes.
Review before presenting
- Can the reader state the recommendation without reading every bullet?
- Are trial participation and active adoption clearly distinguished?
- Does each conclusion have relevant evidence, and does the requested action have an owner?
Download and adapt the editable sample
Edit the headline, the three conclusion blocks, the supporting bullet text, the colour highlights and the footer. These are native PowerPoint text boxes and shapes; you do not need to trace a screenshot.
